Biography
I grew up on a farm in Preston, a small town in Connecticut. My parents listened to country music all the time and I found myself as young girl listening to the greats such as Dolly Parton, Loretta Lyn, Pasty Cline, etc. I think it was then that my voice was molded into a natural country sound. Although I loved to sing, I really didn't know how to sing correctly. I loved music and singing but I was not a singer at that time. In my 20's I moved to Florida with my cousin and soon met my husband. We married about a year later and have been married for many years. We have two children, a 19 year old daughter, Ashley and a 17 year old son, Brett. We moved to North Carolina in 1992. I was very involved with our local church and joined the choir in 1999.
I began to experience some vocal problems. My voice would break and I had a lot of pain when I spoke. I was diagnosed by my ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor) with severe voice strain and she recommended that I be silent for three months. My voice did return but if I started speaking too much my problems started all over again. For eighteen months I struggled with my voice problems and finally I was referred to a speech therapist. I had such terrible breathing habits that I was straining my voice every time I spoke and without proper speech training I was on the road to ruining my voice permanently. After months of speech training I then asked my ENT if I could return to choir. Her answer was "Absolutely not, you don't know how to sing, you need professional training." After doctor ordered singing lessons, I found a voice teacher and soon began lessons. My voice blossomed with lessons and my vocal coach pushed me to sing in church. I started with a classical instructor and after a year I switched to nationally known vocal coach, Audrey Hunt. She helped me develop a sound that was more natural for me. Never in my wildest dream did I ever imagine that I would learn to sing well at mid life, a true answered prayer. It was then I wanted to use my God given talent to honor and Praise the Lord.
I began a music ministry in 2002 and faithfully sang for the Lord for four years. During this past year, however, I was asked many times to sing Classic Country Music (the music I grew up with and loved) at benefits, festivals, fairs and church socials. The response was so overwhelming that it has caused me to really pray about what style of music I should sing. I talked things over with my record label and we decided that since I was now being asked to sing at family entertainment events we should make a CD for such occasions. I have been told over and over again that singing Country Music is where my voice shines. I will always give God the glory, honor and praise because it was only through Him that I received this amazing gift. I want to be a blessing to others and to make people happy with wonderful music that touches the heart. May you see His light in me!
